This stylish, formal evening jacket can be worn to all formal functions where a black tie is requested such as weddings, dances and dinner receptions. The Prince Charlie developed from older military mess jackets, but has evolved by itself as an iconic piece of Highland wear and should not be worn without a vest.
The Prince Charlie jacket is a higher cut than an Argyll and is completed with a 3-button evening waistcoat. This can also be worn with a tartan vest. The rule of thumb is that tartan worn above the waist (waistcoat) or below the knee (hose) should be on the diagonal. One should never be uncomfortable in this jacket but it should look fitted.
