Maynooth Research Guide for Irish Local History: Number 1
This pamphlet is one of four in the newly instituted Maynooth Research Guides for Local History series. Written by specialists in the relevant fields, these volumes are designed to help historians, and specifically those interested in local history, with practical advice regarding the consultation of specific collections of historical material, thereby enabling them to conduct independent research in a competent and thorough manner. In each volume, a brief history of the relevant institutions is provided and the principal primary sources are identified and critically evaluated, with specific reference to their usefulness to the local historian. Readers receive step-by-step guidance as to how to conduct their research and are alerted to some of the problems they might encounter in working with particular collections. Possible avenues for research are suggested and relevant secondary works are also recommended.
Raymond Refausse is the librarian and archivist at the representative church body library, Rathgar, Dublin.
